Horses and Ponies For Lease
Hawk's Nest Farm Leasing
Horses owned by Hawk's Nest Farm are available to students for leasing. Leasing is recommended for students and parents considering buying a horse, wanting to show, or simply wanting to expand riding time. Students in our leasing program are considered boarders and are entitled to those benefits. The leasing program is designed to allow an option to ownership to riders who do not presently own a horse. It brings closer involvement and more "horse hours" without the responsibility or financial obligations of purchasing a horse.
Leasing Options
The leasing program is set up with two basic options, each priced differently. However, other options are always possible.
I. Full Lease
Students who full lease a horse or pony are the only rider and enjoy benefits similar to owning a horse. Full lease at Hawk's Nest Farm and these students also enjoy unlimited practice rides without appointment.
II. Semi-Private Lease
With a semi-private lease the horse is either leased to more than one rider, or used as needed in the lesson program. These students are entitiled to either one scheduled lesson weekly and two unscheduled practice rides, or two scheduled lessons weekly. Students may rotate the two options on a week by week basis.
Maintenance of a Leased Horse
Vet Care
Under both leasing options regular veterinary care is paid by the leasor (full leasor pays in full, semi-private leasor pays half). However, any negligent injury to the horse is the responsibility of the rider.
Shoeing
Under a full lease, shoeing is paid in full by the rider leasing the horse. Under a semi-private lease, shoeing is paid half by the rider leasing the horse.
Tack
Hawk's Nest Farm provides saddles, bridles, and other necessary tack. Students that do not own their own tack should be aware that if a lesson is in progress and the tack they need is not available, they will need to wait until the lesson ends and the tack becomes available.
